Why I Love Books About Wildflowers

When I taught fourth grade, I taught an instructional unit about wildflowers. We (students and staff) each adopted a wildflower name in my room, and tried to call each other by that name for the month. I was Mrs. Foxglove and my instructional assistant was Miss Tall Bearded Iris. It was so much fun. Using a great reference guide specifically for our area, I learned right along with my students about the common and scientific names of the wildflowers in our area.

Our eyes were opened to the variety of blooms all around us. We just had to be on the lookout for them, and the books we used helped us to identify what we were seeing. However you decide to work a study of wildflowers into your teaching plans, these books listed below will help learners increase knowledge and appreciation of the natural flora where you are located.
